CMI Policies
UO Youth Programs & CMI Safety Policy
The Community Music Institute at the School of Music & Dance is recognized as a UO Youth Program. To be compliant with all federal, state and UO policies around working with minor children, families of students participating in CMI will receive a Registration Form once a season that must be read and signed before each student can participate in their first lesson, group class, or ensemble rehearsal.
SUPERVISION OF MINORS REQUIRED IN UO BUILDINGS
The safety of minors while on campus is of utmost importance. Minors should not be unaccompanied in UO buildings at any time. A parent/guardian must accompany each student under the age of 18 to and from their lesson and must be present during the lesson.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS REQUIRED TO ATTEND PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons may not commence unless the parent/guardian is present at the start of the lesson. If a student arrives for their lesson with no parent/guardian present, that lesson cannot take place as scheduled unless the parent/guardian arrives.
LESSONS MAY BE RECORDED
If for whatever reason the parent/guardian must leave the room during the lesson, the instructor is required to turn on the camera and record the lesson until the parent returns. These recordings are intended for protection of students and instructors alike and will be reviewed by CMI administrators only if a complaint is received.
Payment Policy
CMI Invoices are emailed at the beginning of each term of participation, with the exception of Chamber Players which is billed in Fall Term for the entire year of participation. Payments are due in full within 30 days of date of invoice. If payments are not received within 30 days, a late fee will be applied to the balance due. All invoices must be paid in full before you may register for a subsequent term
Absence and Make-Up Policies
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
If a teacher is absent for or cancels a scheduled lesson, the lesson(s) will be made up during the current term. Each student is allowed one make-up lesson due to illness or family emergency. No refunds or make-up lessons will be granted for additional student absences.
CHAMBER PLAYERS
Small ensemble coachings require full participation for maximum educational value. Every student's weekly presence matters. Families must contact CMI at cmi@uoregon.edu in the case of any planned or emergency student absence. Multiple absences may result in the student being replaced for 1) the performance only or 2) the remainder of the term, including the performance.
Inclement Weather Policy
CMI's delay and cancellation procedures will follow University of Oregon campus-wide decisions. Events canceled due to inclement weather will not be rescheduled.
Withdraw Policy
Students wishing to withdraw from a program must email the CMI Business Office at cmi@uoregon.edu. Refunds will be considered based on the conditions of the withdrawl.
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
Lesson payment for the term are not retroactively adjustable.
CHAMBER PLAYERS
It is the goal of CMI to foster discipline, teamwork, and dedication to challenge each student to achieve their highest potential as an individual and ensemble member. Therefore, students are expected to have a consistent level of commitment to their coachings and performances. If there is an ongoing problem with attendance or preparation, the student may be asked to withdraw from the program.
